Cut the shape

Use a tenon saw to cut the shape of the spoon.


Use a spokeshave

Shape the wood with a spokeshave.


Use a Shinto rasp

Use a Shinto Rasp

Shape the head of the spoon by using a rasp.


Sanding

Sanding

Use various grits of sandpaper to smooth the wood.


Oiling

Oiling

Oil the wood to bring out the grain.


This woodworking class in Perth will delve into the art of carving your very own wooden spoon. Learn critical skills in woodworking that will allow you to make a functional and beautiful utensil, all with your own hands!
Don't worry if you're new to woodworking, this workshop is designed with beginners in mind. Our experienced instructor will guide you through each step of the process, ensuring you feel confident and capable throughout the class.
Throughout the workshop, you'll learn how to work with high-quality woodworking tools, as you shape and carve your spoon. After you finish, you'll discover the joy of creating something tangible and unique.
By the end of the class, you'll walk away with a handcrafted wooden spoon that you can proudly show off in your kitchen or gift to a loved one.

This workshop has two locations. Please choose venue depending upon group size:
  • This workshop is available only at Millgum Farm in the Swan Valley for up to 8 participants.
  • This workshop is available only at Helena River Steiner School for more than 9 participants.
This workshop it is also available as a one to one workshop.

Knowledge required
No prior woodwork knowledge or skills required.
Participant’s ability to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe may vary, and additional bookings may be needed to finish the work.
Preference will be given to traditional hand tools over power tools, acknowledging that this will involve increased time and effort.
What to bring
Please wear enclosed shoes with hair tied back.
