Using a tenon saw you cut the desired length of wood for your cooking spatula.

The cooking spatula head needs to be shaped to meet the handle.

Using a Shinto rasp the spatula handle is shaped to fit your hand. Various grits of sandpaper is then used to smooth the wood.

The next step involves applying food safe oil to the spatula to seal the wood and reveal the grain of the wood.

Lastly, it’s cooking time! You can use it at home in the kitchen.


In this hands-on woodworking class, dive in the wonderful world of woodcraft as you create your very own spatula from scratch. Discover the thrill of working with natural materials and learning how to craft a functional and beautiful piece that you can proudly use in the kitchen.
If you're new to woodworking, no problem! Our experienced instructors will guide you through each step, making sure you feel confident and supported throughout the workshop.
With a hands-on approach and plenty of encouragement, this activity promises to be both rewarding and enjoyable. By the end of the workshop, you'll walk away with a unique spatula that you've personally handcrafted, ready to use in your cooking adventures.
This workshop has two locations. Please choose venue depending upon group size:
  • This workshop is available only at Millgum Farm for up to 8 participants.
  • This workshop is available only at Helena River Steiner School for more than 9 participants.
This workshop it is also available as a one to one workshop.

No prior woodwork knowledge or skills required.
What to bring
You are required to wear enclosed shoes, tie back your hair and avoid wearing loose clothing.
Suitable for

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 12 years old).

Adult accompaniment is not required.
